RCSS News & Events

Image

O Lord, you said you came: "to set the captives free." In our world young men and women who are trafficked are modern-day slaves. Help these young people not to lose hope. Help elected officials to grow in awareness of and to take active steps to eradicate this horror. Teach them not to prosecute the victims of trafficking but to bring to justice those who perpetrate this crime.
Lord, give the grace of conversion to those who mistreat others for their own personal gain. May the awareness of this horrendous crime spread throughout the world and may many join the efforts to stop trafficking and help the victims begin anew, filled with hope.

PLANTING PARTY AND BBQ - JANUARY 27

Save the date! Join the Ramona community in helping make our beautiful campus even more beautiful! This year we will improve the area in front of the Library by planting a Mediterranean garden complete with lemon trees. All school families are welcome Saturday, January 27, from 9 am until noon. Service hours will be given to students who help. Stay tuned for more information. If it rains, the party and BBQ will be held on Saturday, February 3.

"BEAT THE HEAT" CAMPAIGN UPDATES

Installation of the air-conditioning in the gym is now complete! Construction crew members worked hard over winter break to ensure the completion of the project. As the warmer months approach, our students will be able to practice and play safely in a more comfortable environment. As you know, the gym is the only place large enough to accommodate our entire student body. This project will benefit not only our athletes and spectators, but the entire school community and generations to come.

It's not too late to support! Click here to support the campaign:

The Cal State LA chapter of the Society of Women Engineers will be running an after-school program starting on January 17 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the MakerDen. Students will learn the basics of 3D CAD, Arduino Programing, and robot construction.  We are hopeful that we can start many other community partnerships to enrich the experiences here at Ramona.

YOUNG ALUM REUNION

On our first day back to school we were delighted to welcome back sixty of our youngest graduates who were home from College. They arrived in time to participate in the pep rally and then they joined the faculty for lunch. Not only were they delighted to see one another, but all of us enjoyed hearing the successes and challenges of their college days and hearing their plans for majors, internships, research opportunities, study abroad opportunities – and for some – grad school.

MORE RAMONA AT THE ROSE PARADE HIGHLIGHTS

Image

Last week we shared that two Ramona students earned the honor of carrying banners during the Rose Parade and we were recently informed that another student was also involved with the Rose Parade and rode on a float!

Patricia Salazar '21 rode Amazon Prime's Grand Tour Float. Patricia is part of a U.S. Club Crew Team that will compete in the 2018 World Club Crew Dragon Boat Championships. Her team was the manpower behind the human-powered float for Amazon Prime, one of the sponsors for the competition. Congratulations, Patricia!

L.A. FREEDOM WALK

The L.A. Freedom Walk against human trafficking will be held this Saturday, January 13, at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Hollywood. Students will have the opportunity to hear stories from survivors of human trafficking. Permission slips are available at the campus ministry box outside room 103. We will gather at Ramona at 8 am. This is a great opportunity to earn service hours!

BLOOD DRIVE

Ramona's Interact Club is sponsoring a blood drive on Monday, January 29. Representatives from the Red Cross will be in the Holy Family Room from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. You have only to listen to the news to realize how urgent the demand for blood is. Students are also being invited to donate blood. To be eligible they must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental permission). Next week's newsletter will have information about making appointments. Students are signing up through the next couple of weeks and will be bringing home permission slips (if required).

ALUMNAE VS. VARSITY SOCCER GAME

Image

Last Friday, a tough group of Ramona alumnae soccer players dusted off their equipment for an exciting match against our current Varsity squad. It was evident that the alums certainly haven't lost their touch as they trounced the current team 10 to 1. What an exciting game! Of course, it was all in the spirit of friendship, sisterhood, fun....and bragging rights. See you next year on the field, alums!
