PLANTING PARTY AND BBQ - JANUARY 27

Save the date! Join the Ramona community in helping make our beautiful campus even more beautiful! This year we will improve the area in front of the Library by planting a Mediterranean garden complete with lemon trees. All school families are welcome Saturday, January 27, from 9 am until noon. Service hours will be given to students who help. Stay tuned for more information. If it rains, the party and BBQ will be held on Saturday, February 3.

LA FREEDOM WALK

Image

Twenty Ramona students marched in this year's L.A. Freedom Walk against human trafficking on Saturday in Koreatown. Sr. Anna and Sr. Daleen joined them along with other SNJM sisters and associates. There were over 350 marchers from all over Los Angeles. The day started with a prayer ritual and was followed by a survivor of human trafficking who told her story. The marchers walked around the neighborhood distributing information about human trafficking.

FAIR TRADE PRODUCTS

Closely related to the issue of Human Trafficking is the issue of fair trade products. Men, women, and children are trafficked to work in factories and on farms. One way we can take a stand against this practice is to buy fair trade products when possible. Fair trade cocoa is an agricultural product harvested from the cacao tree using a certified process which is followed by cocoa farmers, buyers, and chocolate manufacturers, and is designed to create sustainable incomes for farmers and their families. Our Ramona girls love chocolate; however, to make them aware of this particular justice issue, we sell fair trade chocolate especially when students are sending Valentine grams, Christmas grams etc. Actually, they can satisfy their chocolate cravings with a fair trade chocolate bar most any day.

HOMELESSNESS SOLIDARITY RETREAT

The Homelessness Solidarity Retreat will be February 2nd and 3rd. Students will have the opportunity to sleep overnight in cardboard boxes on the Ramona campus, hear guest speakers, watch a movie, and serve breakfast to the homeless the next day. This retreat is worth 10 service hours. Permission slips are outside room 103 and are due back to Sister Anna by January 25th.

"BEAT THE HEAT" CAMPAIGN UPDATES

Installation of the air-conditioning in the gym is now complete! Construction crew members worked hard over winter break to ensure the completion of the project. As the warmer months approach, our students will be able to practice and play safely in a more comfortable environment. As you know, the gym is the only place large enough to accommodate our entire student body. This project will benefit not only our athletes and spectators, but the entire school community and generations to come.

It's not too late to support! Click here to support the campaign:
