COUNTDOWN TO COMPETITION

Image

This past weekend, the robotics team got a lot accomplished in terms of the robots functionality. They completed the robot on Friday and continued to perfect it on Saturday. Along with making sure the mechanisms on the robot were functional, the driving team, Celeste Vazquez '20 and Celine Vazquez '20, practiced driving the robot. After a busy Friday and Saturday, the team participated in a scrimmage at Valencia High School on Sunday. This event helped the team troubleshoot any problems with the mechanisms and also helped drivers gain more experience in how the real game is played. Tuesday, February 19th, was "bag day." This is when they stopped building and stored the robot in a bag. This means they will not be able to work on the robot until the competition starts. However, the team will continue to practice on the prototype robot in order to prep for competition. Click here to learn more about how the game works.

Mr. Brian Kays, Ramona's Director of Innovation and Technology Integration, has been appointed a STEP UP 4 Women Ambassador. Mr. Kays will train teachers how to effectively reduce barriers for women in physics in order to inspire them to pursue physics majors in college and begin to shift deep-seated cultural views about who does physics. Mr. Kays and Mrs. Seager currently run the STEP UP 4 Women program in their Physics classes.

VARSITY SOCCER TEAM FINISHES OFF SEASON STRONG

Image

Ramona's soccer team capped off their season by making it to the second round of CIF playoffs with two "home" games – actually played at Bosco Tech on the artificial turf rather than our rain-soaked field. In the first round, Ramona defeated Rancho Alamitos by a score of 4 – 1. Our Tigers lost to Big Bear in the second round by a score of 2 – 1. Our Tigers played the last three minutes with the same energy and determination as the first three minutes. We are proud of you! We look forward to more recognition at the Sports Banquet on Tuesday evening, February 26. Shown above are senior soccer players Samantha Gonzalez, Araceli Seager, Cyan Granillo, Megan Valadez, and Nathalie Castanos.

SPRING SPORTS ATHLETIC FEE

All students who are selected for a spring team have an athletic fee of $200. This fee will be automatically debited on Friday, February 22, from the bank account we have on file. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Castro at 626-282-4151 ext. 120 or via email at lcastro@ramonaconvent.org

NEWS FROM THE GUIDANCE & COLLEGE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

There are only 15 spots left for our upcoming East Coast College Tour. Schools that we plan to visit are Boston College, Lasell College, Amherst College, Mount Holyoke, Brown University, Trinity College, Fairfield College, and Pace University. This tour is scheduled to take place October 27 - November 1. We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity. A $250.00 deposit is required to guarantee a spot. For more information, please contact Mr. Chavarría (achavarria@ramonaconvent.org).

Mr. Chavarria would like parents to encourage all Juniors to attend the upcoming workshop on personal essay writing. This will take place next Monday, February 25, at 3:00 p.m. in the HFR. Learn from a college admissions representative as she speaks about what schools look for in an essay. This is a golden opportunity for students to learn how to increase their chances of submitting a powerful personal essay. ARCHDIOCESE SPONSORS PARENT REFERRAL PROGRAM

In an effort to increase enrollment in Catholic Schools across the Archdiocese, you are invited to participate by referring a student to Ramona or a younger child to your neighborhood Catholic School. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is excited to announce a new Parent Referral Program sponsored by the Department of Catholic Schools. Effective immediately, any referrals submitted through the referral portal below will get you one step closer to winning some great incentives.

  • Tuition Discount: If your referral enrolls, both you and your referral will receive $100 off tuition, up to the first 100 referred enrollments
  • iPad Raffle: Every referral submitted through the referral portal counts as 1 entry into the raffle, 5 winners will be randomly selected

Also, the school whose parents submit the most referrals based on the student population will receive a $3,000 technology grant — so let's do this together!

A qualified referral counts as a friend, family member, or other acquaintance who has expressed interest in Catholic education. Once you submit a referral, both you and the referral will receive an email confirmation with the next steps.

I encourage you to participate as actively as possible, and please spread the word! Let's help keep our schools strong and our faith alive. Here's a special message from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and thank you for all you do!

SHOW YOUR SOCCER SPIRIT!

Just in…soccer scarves for your favorite Ramona soccer player (or just for yourself)!
