WORLD KINDNESS WEEK AT RAMONA

Image

Sunday, November 13th, was World Kindness Day.  We have made this a week-long celebration at Ramona.

Our TNT news crew has been working on songs of love and hope for the week and have also created a wall of kindness/hope in the Student Life Center where all students have been invited to write messages of kindness, hope, or love.  Quotes of hope and love have also been posted on the boards in the hallways.

Yesterday during homeroom, all students were invited to write a kind message to a friend or stranger.

Tomorrow, the Interact Club will be participating in an activity to learn how to turn complaints into thanks.  Next week the news crew will do an "I am thankful" project using some of the messages.

What will you do to show kindness this week?

CHRISTMAS CALENDAR

By now you have received your mailing about Ramona's traditional Christmas calendar game –

Some call it a raffle; some call it bingo; we call it fun – and the chance to win a prize every day during December.  Where else can you get 31 raffle tickets for $20.  Simply complete the form and return it with your $20.   You may enter as many times as you wish.  Feel free to invite other family and friends to enter too.  Forms may be downloaded from the website and copied.  Thanksgiving is a wonderful day to invite family members to join the fun.  While you may enter any time during December, the earlier you enter the more chances to win you have.  You can also win more than once…if your name is drawn early in the month, you get that prize – and your ticket is put back in so that you have a chance at the big prize on Christmas Day.  Join the fun!

GRANDPARENTS' DAY

Our annual celebration of grandparents will be held on Wednesday, November 30th beginning with a Fall Concert performance in the gym at Noon followed by lunch in the Holy Family Room.  The cost is $10 per person.

To make your reservations, fill out a reservation form and return to Ms. Cerda in Founder's Hall by Tuesday, November 22nd.  If additional forms are needed please see Ms. Cerda. Reservations will not be accepted after Tuesday, November 22nd. For additional information, please contact Ms. Cerda at (626) 282-4151 ext. 113 or gcerda@ramonaconvent.org.

WARNING SLIPS

Warning slips to clear students for semester exams will be distributed right after Thanksgiving Vacation (11/29).  All accounts (tuition, parent pledge, athletic fees, etc.) must be brought up to date before students are allowed to take semester exams.  To avoid a warning slip, please take care of financial obligations before Thanksgiving vacation begins.

WINTER ATHLETIC FEE

All students who are selected for a winter team (basketball or soccer) have an athletic fee of $175. This fee will be automatically debited on Tuesday, November 22nd from the bank account we have on file. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Castro at 626-282-4151 ext. 120 or via email at lcastro@ramonaconvent.org. Thank you.

FALL PERFORMANCE REVIEW: OUR TOWN

Image

On Friday and Saturday, November 4th and 5th, the cast and crew of Thornton Wilder's classic drama, Our Town, transformed the Holy Family Room into a little town called Grover's Corners in New Hampshire 100 years ago.  We got to know two  fathers who love their wives, and those wives who gossip over picking green beans or walking home from choir practice, and their children who share conversation, ice cream sodas after school, and ultimately marriage.  We met the milk delivery man and his horse, the little paper boy who later dies in WWI, and the town drunk who conducts the church choir.  In short, we were guided through the lives of these people and their neighbors by not one, but two, stage managers and an occasional guest lecturer.

The grand achievement of this production was due to director Richard Gallegos's vision for the show, and  in the collaboration of the talented  actors with the foley artists who manufactured all the sound effects we heard.  You see, the horse wasn't real.  The milk bottles weren't real.  The green beans weren't real, and neither was the bacon or the thunder, or the grain for the chickens - or the chickens!  Yet we heard the clanking of the horse's hooves, the jingle of his bridle, and the neighs of his greetings every time the milkman entered the scene.  We heard the tinkling of the glass milk bottles as the milkman put them in a cart and handed them to the women of the town.  We heard the newspapers land at the end of the paperboy's throw, and we heard the green beans snap into pieces, the rain fall on the cemetery at the funeral, and the gurgle of a hastily slurped milkshake as two awkward teenagers began to know they were in love.  It was a fine dance, moving the audience to real tears as we said "good-by to sleeping, to waking up and to coffee"  and to Emily, who died in childbirth, 9 years after what one neighbor woman swore was the best wedding she had ever attended.

The cast, crew, and the director did a superlative job, and their families were marvelous supporters as audience members, transportation specialists, and refreshment donors, among many many other joyful tasks.  It was a truly moving experience, and all involved should be proud!
