CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2017

At Ramona, the college preparation and selection process is a personal four-year journey of exploration, self discovery, hard work, and growth.  Join us as we celebrate the Class of 2017, their accomplishments, their journey, and their future. We have empowered them to prepare for and select the college that's the best fit for them. Click the photo above for a video containing matriculation information for the recent graduating class.

SENIORS SHARE INSIGHTS WITH POPE FRANCIS

At the invitation of Archbishop Gomez, Ramona seniors, along with Ms. Averill and Mr. Laborie, recently contributed to a working document being prepared for the Synod of Bishops on Young People, Faith, and Vocational Discernment. A Synod is a meeting of Bishops from around the world who assist the Pope by presenting counsel on important questions facing the Church. In preparation for the Synod, Pope Francis has issued a letter asking young people "not be afraid to listen to the Spirit" and encouraging them to "undertake a journey of discernment to discover God's plan" for their lives. Pope Francis' letter also encourages young people to let their voices be heard throughout the journey of the Synod.

In response to the Pope's call, Ramona students and teachers responded thoughtfully to a series of questions designed to help the Bishops understand the world of young people and assess their experience of vocational accompaniment. Students were asked about their perceptions of challenges they face as well as the opportunities the school gives them to pray, celebrate the sacraments, go on retreat, serve others, and discern their vocations. The Synod will convene in October 2018.

RAMONA ALUMNAE RECEIVES LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE AWARD

We have just received notice from Holy Names University that Julissa Galan '15 was one of twenty sophomores to receive the Alpha Delta Leadership and Service Award.   HNU recognizes outstanding student leaders in each class. To receive a class award, students must be involved in service to the HNU community and communities outside of the campus and demonstrate scholarship, leadership, and service to the university.  Having been grounded in these values during her years at Ramona, Julissa stepped easily into similar roles at the University. Congratulations!

SCHOOL OFFICE

The school office is open 8:00-4:30 during the summer; however, if you need to see a specific person, it would be wise to see if he/she is on campus.  Administrators and staff will be taking vacation at various times.

TRUSTEES SCHOLARSHIP

Congratulations to Gabriela Natividad '18 who was awarded the prestigious Trustees' Scholarship for her senior year.  Juniors with a 3.8 GPA or better were invited to complete the application; a committee from the Board of Trustees reviewed the applications and made the selection – a challenging task since all of the applicants were so qualified.

IMPORTANT TEXTBOOK INFORMATION FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR:

Please review these textbook changes for next year before purchasing any used books from either another Ramona student or from a 3rd party vendor.  As you purchase used books this summer please check that the ISBN number matches the book listed on our K12 Bookstore list, which will be available in early July.  Also remember that some books have online components that are used regularly in class, such as our Spanish and French texts.  When purchasing a used textbook, you are not getting the online version as well, you are only purchasing the book.  Please be sure that your daughter has access to and has purchased the online resources she needs.

The following books WILL NOT be used again next year:

Theology Department:

All Theology 9, Theology 10 and Theology 11 books are being replaced.  Only 12th grade Theology books will be used again next year.  Do not purchase used Theology books for grades 9 – 11.

The Bibles currently being used by our 10th – 12th graders can not be sold back to an incoming 9th or 10th grader.  The versions are a little different, and new students will need the newer version of this Bible.

English Department:

The Great Grammar Book will no longer be used by 9th and 10th graders.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE GUIDANCE AND COLLEGE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT FOR THE CLASS OF 2018

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I want to take this opportunity to remind you and your daughters of certain changes and programs leading up to the college application season.  As many of you may know, senior year can be an overwhelming and stressful time, especially during the college application season. Therefore, as their senior counselor, I would like to share some information that should be useful as parents and students prepare to finalize college plans.

There will be a two-day College Admissions Season Boot Camp. On August 14 from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. We will take the time to input prospective colleges into Naviance, invite teachers for letters of recommendation, and sync the Common Application to Naviance. On Tuesday, August 15 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., the focus will be on the Personal Essay Statement with continued work on the Common Application and Naviance.
